Self-Defense

July 5th 1:00-3:00
With the expertise e of Abilene Martial Artist, prepare yourself for emergency situations to protect yourself and loved ones.  This fun, interactive training session will provide self-motivation, discipline and confidence.

 

American Red Cross Babysitting Certification

July 6th 1:00-3:00
Earn a higher level of pay per hour by providing better care to children.  This course will build parent’s confidence in your ability to care for their children

 

Pet Care

July 7th 1:00-3:00
This course can provide you with proven strategies to effectively care for your beloved pets.  Participants will grow in knowledge and confidence when dealing with their pets.  Quality Pet care equals happy pets!

 

Internet Safety

July 8th 1:00-3:00
The most enjoyable resource in the world can also be the most dangerous when surfing without precaution.  While having a blast on the computer, learn ways to protect yourself from dangerous people and dangerous websites.

Summer Theme:

How I view myself, others view me… and how I choose to make an impact.

                      Camp 1:00 to 6:00

June 8th-11th

 “Welcome to Middle School” Camp

 This camp will prepare girls that will graduate from elementary school and go into middle school for the first time.  Girls will get to know middle school student leaders and hear from Middle school teachers and principals.

 

June 15th-18th

 “Arts and Culture” – Fine arts and Latin Culture Camp

 This camp will focus on creating art with Ruth Jackson, Latin dance with Carla Mariela Leveling, Theatre and Drama with Amy Simpson and Culture Music with Jaime Paterson.

 

June 22nd -25th

 “Culinary Artistry” – Cooking Camp

Students will learn independence and creativity through the art of culinary artistry.  Each day students will learn to make an international dish.  The last day of camp will be focused on American Desserts with the support Jerita Howard, Owner of One Smart Cookie.  Students will also learn meal-time and social etiquette.

 

July 13th-16th

 “Discover your World” – Technology Camp           

With the support of interns from local universities students will discover their world through technology including camcorders,cameras, computers and other forms of software and media.  They will learn to create video and photos of landscape, community and self. All work will conclude with an Art Show for the local community. 

 

July 20th-23rd

“Image” Camp

Local Image Consultants and A-Teens counselors will empower the young women to define themselves instead of being defined by other standards.  Girls will learn about their individual style which will encourage confidence and self assurance while understanding their bodies and how to feel good in your own skin.

 

July 27th-30th                                        

 “Up and At ‘Em”- Recreation and Wellness Camp

Movement and activity stimulates the senses and prepares students for a healthy, active lifestyle.  Liz Rotenberry, professor at Abilene Christian University will partner with A-Teens in teaching creative ways to stay active which includes Jump roping tricks, Lummy Sticks, Juggling and other creative ways to be “up and at ‘em.” such as kickboxing, yoga and more.

 

August 3rd-6th, 10th-13th

 “Impact your World” – Service Learning Camp     

This camp takes the girls through lessons of giving back.  The students will serve local non-profit programs donating their time to others. They will also get to go on fun day trips to other organizations around town.

                                                            
Free Plane Ride with EAA Young Eagles

Who?  For Middle School girls and younger siblings (must be betwen 8 and 17 years of age)  Parents are welcome to stay but will not be able to fly

When?  Saturday, June 12th, 9 AM - 4 PM

Call the Alliance for Women & Children 677-5321 to sign up for an hour time block.

Bring the permission form with you to the airport.. follow the road on the West side of the airport (towards FedEx) -- there will be a hangar which says "Young Eagles"
