Community Impact - A-Teens
The Issues
Typically middle school girls are full of fun and excitement and yet in most cases are filled with self-doubt. These young teens are seeking role models that will teach them self-confidence and self-assurance. They are ready to develop healthy relationships and learn to make good choices. If these girls can be influenced and motivated in an atmosphere of trust and friendship, a pattern of positive life skills can be developed so that they will be able to excel, dream and succeed in their personal aspirations.
Program Profile
Our longest running program, A-Teens is designed for middle school girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. With the assistance of college age counselors, the A-Teens participate in well-planned programs, fun filled activities and service projects designed to build self-confidence and personal growth.
The A-Teens School-Year Program is held one afternoon a week at all AISD middle schools, Wylie Junior High and Clyde Junior High. The girls meet as a single group once a month for activities including service projects and fun. Cost is kept to a minimum and is $15 for the entire school year.
A-Teen's Summer Program is held June, July and August at the Alliance for Women & Children's building, 1350 North 10th Street, Abilene. The teens meet three afternoons a week. While the program may vary from year to year, it has been developed to teach important life skills.
